The best Super Late Models in the Midwest will be on hand for the annual Alphabet Soup race at I-80 Speedway this Friday night and then journey over to the Adams County Speedway (ACS) in Corning, Iowa Saturday night for the Ray Houck Liberty 50. The back-to-back events are critical in deciding the Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) Championship, so we asked MLRA Competition Director Ernie Leftwich his thoughts on the weeks events.

We are really excited to get back to both I-80 Speedway and Adams County Speedway.” says Leftwich. “The weather last year really was a bummer for all of us. These races both have quite a bit of history.”

The Alphabet Soup race is heading into its 14th year and this will be our 7th event at Adams County.” continues Leftwich. “The racing this year in the Lucas Oil MLRA has been outstanding. There is an extremely deep field of drivers. We’re thrilled so many have chosen to run with the Lucas Oil MLRA.
These races have proven pivotal in our points chase in past years and we have a heck of a battle going on this year between several drivers.”

The Super Late Models events at both I-80 and ACS will be co-sanctioned by the MLRA with the Corn Belt Clash Series (CBC) and the MARS Dirtcar Series (MARS).

Also joining the Super Late Models at I-80 will be the Nebraska 360 Sprints and GOTRA. Since Jack Dover has made a habit of winning lately, the Nebraska 360 Sprint Car Series and I-80 Speedway have decided they needed to put a bounty on “the Gasman.” So on Friday, June 26 at the Alphabet Soup Race, if a driver can beat Dover in the Nebraska 360 Sprint feature they can pick up a $1,000 bonus. That’s in addition to a purse that pays $1,500 (plus a $200 card from Speedway Motors) to win and $500 JUST TO START the feature.

Additionally, Dover can start no better than eighth in the feature, if he makes the redraw he will automatically receive the eight pill. In addition to the great purse, as always there will be a $300 podium draw sponsored by ESI, a $200 Hard Charger Award sponsored by Select Auto Body plus other contingencies. The Gas Man will receive a $250 bonus for accepting the challenge. Racing gets underway at 7:15 pm.
