The event drew rave reviews last year as USMTS Modified Champion turned part-time Late Model driver Ryan Gustin charged from his 34<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\">th<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> starting position to take the lead on lap 47 against the best drivers in the business. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Later, Gustin tangled with a lapped car taking himself out of contention. Mr. Consistent, Jimmy Owens took back the lead and drove to a $27,000 payday on his way to his third consecutive Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship. The year&#8217;s version of the 80 lap feature pays $30,000 to win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">You can expect all the main players to return for this year&#8217;s version (July 17, 18 &amp; 19) which is once again co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA). Currently, Don O&#8217;Neal leads the Lucas Oil points at 1,915 with team mate Steve Francis right behind at 1,865. Defending Champion Jimmy Owens once again got off to a slow start but has quietly moved into third at 1,835. Eddie Carrier, Jr., Earl Pearson, Jr. and Scott Bloomquist are right behind. Non-series regulars such as Billy Moyer, Jr., Brian Birkhofer and Jimmy Mars are also expected to be on hand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">On the USMTS Modified side of things, Rodney Sanders has also started racing Dirt Late Models and doing a great job as witnessed by his win at I-80&#8217;s Spring Meltdown in April. Sanders is still a force in the USMTS and will lead the likes of Johnny and Stormy Scott, Kelly Shryock, Zack VanderBeek and the other USMTS regulars into the SDN. One part-time USMTS driver this year is I-80 Speedway regular Dylan Smith of Osceola.
